What are the selection criteria for the Anesthesia Technology Program?
All applicants who meet the requirements for the program will be considered for admission. Eligible applicants will be prioritized in one of the three categories. To be competitive, applicants who complete Priority 1 will be consider first. Having high GPA in science courses, having work experience in the healthcare field, and having healthcare-related volunteer experiences will be a plus.

Is financial aid available?
Yes, financial aid is available through PCC’s Student Financial Aid Office located in the L Bldg.
If students have an Associate degree or a Bachelor’s degree in the U.S., do they still need general education classes at PCC in order to complete the Anesthesia Tech program?
Students with an Associate degree or higher in the U.S. at other colleges or universities are waived from having to take the PCC general education courses. However, if the general education courses are not taken, students with prior degrees will receive a certificate in Anesthesia Tech, not an associate degree from PCC.
Do students need to have an Associate degree at the time they apply or is it ok to apply with the PCC general education courses in progress?
It is highly recommended that all applicants complete an associate degree or complete the PCC GE general education requirements prior to applying to qualify under Priority 1. To apply to the AT program, a high school transcript is required unless the applicant has an Associate degree or higher posted to college transcripts.
Would it hurt the student’s chances of getting selected if the general education courses are taken from other colleges?
Students can take general education courses from other colleges. Coursework must be equivalent.
If students have taken chemistry, physiology, and anatomy courses, would that make them more competitive in the selection process?
These specific science courses are not required in order to apply to the AT program. However, students who have completed these courses with above a 2.5 GPA and have an associate degree with work experience in the healthcare field, and healthcare related volunteer experiences will be a plus.
How many students apply and are admitted to the program each year?
About 50 apply. 30 students will be selected for the program.
What are the five typical tasks that Anesthesia Technologists do?
- Assist licensed anesthesia providers with procedures.
- Assists with the application of various types of anesthesia equipment.
- Troubleshooting, maintenance, and recording of inspections for equipment.
- Assembling and calibrating medical devices for use.
- Set up of the operating room to meet the needs of the anesthesia provider and patient.
What are the starting salaries and mid-career salaries for Anesthesia Technologists?
On Average the salaries are:
Starting salary = $34,000 - $44,000
Mid-level salary = $43,000 - $50,000
Top salary = $51,000 - $72,000
What happens when a student in the Anesthesia Technology program fails a test or a course?
Students are counseled and tutored if they fail a test. If a course was failed, the student would be dismissed from the program.
As a student, am I able to choose my clinical schedule in the program?
No. The clinical schedule for each student is determined by the faculty to ensure that students receive comprehensive clinical experience. The set clinical schedule will also aid the student in obtaining a variety of necessary cases and clinical clock hours that are required to graduate from the program. Some clinical sites may be a far distance from your home, however it is the expectation that you will need to travel to these clinical sites, which means that you need to allow for appropriate travel time to/from these sites. A student will be not permitted to change their predetermined clinical schedule by requesting a clinical site closer to their home.
Where have the graduates of the AT program been able to find employment?
Multiple Kaiser Permanente facilities in both northern and southern California, Children’s LA, UCLA, UCI, Huntington Hospital
What are the employment opportunities for students once they graduate from the AT program?
To date, all our graduates have obtained employment. The job market is viable.
Do students need an Associate degree in order to take the national certification examination?
An Associate degree in AT or a degree in a different major along with a certificate in AT are required to take the national certification examination.
What if students do not have a Social Security number?
A Social Security number is required for the background check upon acceptance to the program.
If students have a criminal conviction on their records, can they still enter the AT program?
Applicants with criminal convictions should speak with the program director prior to applying. Certain criminal convictions will prevent an applicant from attending the required clinical component.
Does the AT program provide a good foundation for registered nursing?
Anesthesia technology can be considered a pathway program for many healthcare fields, including nursing.
If I am not selected to the AT program, do I have to submit everything again the following year?
A new application and new transcripts must be submitted.
